The KNX system is characterized by the KNX TP1 cable. Using the correct bus cable will help transmit control signals reliably and stably over a long period of time. The following article will help you better understand the types of KNX cables suitable for specific applications.

#1. KNX TP1 bus cable - 2 pairs, 2x2x0.8mm (white or green)
KNX TP cable (Twisted Pair Cable ) is a signal transmission cable that uses two twisted pairs of wires to transmit data. Each pair of wires is made up of two solid copper cores, 0.8mm in diameter, covered by a silver layer with a tin-plated noise-emitting fiber in a green or white LSHF (Low Smoke Halogen Free) sheath . The two pairs of wires are red-black and yellow-white twisted in pairs to minimize noise.
The outer sheath of the cable is made from LSHF (Low Smoke Halogen Free) and is equipped with components containing flame retardant or flame retardant compounds depending on the manufacturer. This sheath will produce little smoke when burned and does not contain toxic substances in the halogen group such as (Flo (F), Chlorine (Cl), Bromine (Br), Iodine (I), Astatine (At), Tennessine (Ts).
The cable has been tested and certified for use in KNX systems and bears the KNX logo on the cable sheath. 100m, 250m, 500m or 1000m rolls (depending on the manufacturer).
This type of cable is used for all KNX system installations. The white sheathed cable is often useful when running exposed along walls (for aesthetic reasons). This bus cable is also useful for other communication systems such as "door communication".
Use this cable for ALL KNX installations unless you have a specific requirement that one of the other cables below meets.
#2. KNX TP1 bus cable - 1 pair, 1x2x0.8mm (green)
This KNX cable has the same construction as the 2x2x0.8mm cable but has only one twisted pair (red-black) for data transmission with a green LSHF jacket. Because there is only one pair of wires, this type of cable has the advantage of being smaller, lighter, saving space and cost.
In terms of connection techniques, this type of cable also offers greater flexibility due to its smaller overall diameter. It is suitable for connection in electrical cabinets and for connecting KNX devices that do not require an auxiliary power supply.
Usually available in 100m or 250m rolls (depending on manufacturer).
#3. KNX TP1 bus cable - 2 pairs, Duct Grade, 2x2x0.8mm (black)
This cable is constructed similarly to #1 but is sheathed in a durable, black, UV-resistant polyethylene (PE) waterproof jacket over a standard green LSHF jacket. This cable is intended for outdoor use where UV protection is required.
Because it is expensive, it can be purchased by the meter.
#4. KNX TP1 bus cable - 2 pairs, Steel Armoured Exterior Grade, 2x2x0.8mm (black)
The inner core is still KNX TP1 cable but this type of cable is covered with a PE sheath (black) + a layer of 0.9mm galvanized steel wire + a thick waterproof PE sheath.
This type of cable is ideal for installation in locations subject to physical damage, vandalism or rodent attack or for direct burial in the ground.
Can be purchased by the meter.
